I found out both America and War were going to be playing at the Marin County Fair in San Rafael. I planned to leave, so I would arrive at least one hour early in order to make sure I could get a good spot to see both shows. Little did I know I had mapped the directions to the wrong fairgrounds. I thought it was a little odd when I found lots of free parking. I was able to find someone and ask about the fair. I was told the fair there had already happened, but I could go to the Marin fair which was about 40 minutes away. I said yes, that's the one I wanted and got the directions. Luckily I just had to go south on 101 and I was soon at the right fairgrounds. One lot had overflowed, so I had to park a little bit farther away and walk up to the gate. There were already several long lines when the music from War started playing. I had to wait to pay for my admission ticket and I understood the purpose of ordering fair tickets in advance. So I listened to the music while I waited, which didn't seem like it took that long. When I finally walked in the gate, I followed the bridge and went across it to the island, which was already packed. The left side looked more open and closer to the lake, so I went over to that side and close to the front. I tried to get as close to the edge of the tent as I could, so I didn't have to stand in the sun. I couldn't quite make it, so I stepped back to put on sunscreen and a cap, which helped. After standing on the edge for a little while, I saw an usher hold up a finger asking for one, but I wasn't sure what he meant. I was close to the front, so I said I was just one. He motioned for me to come around the rope barrier and pointed to a seat that was four or five seats from the side. It was a few seats behind the standing area in the front, still on the side, but it had a better view of the stage and it was in the shade. So it was good. I think this song, Only In Your Heart, describes America's concert well at this venue. I've been to Redwood, I've been to San Rafael. All my views have been great!
